Industry Insider

Red Bull visited our Cape Town offices to find out a bit more about us, follow the link to see what they uncovered … other than a lot of bikes, a gagillion CNC machine shavings and of course a banging coffee machine.

Stay tuned for more in-house developments happening here at our South African HQ.

Bye Summer, Hello Autumn!

As autumn descends, trail conditions throughout South Africa are changing. For Jobergers and those dudes and dudettes living in KZN, the air is getting crisper, the lanky green grass is starting to fade to brown and the saturated ground is starting to dry out.

For those in the Cape, April ushers in a usually dramatic change of season, bringing cold fronts that cool the air, often thrashing the region with strong North Westers and persistent rain. In the grip of a relentless drought though, the Capies are desperate for some rain to dampen the dust and unleash hero dirt!

Wherever you are in SA, don’t let autumn’s shorter days and cooler temperatures dampen your spirit. Get out there and ride!

Raw to Rad

Creating each and every cSixx chainring involves a 13 step, RAW to RAD process. We’ve outlined the 7 most important steps:

1 // Prepping the Raw Aluminium
Sourced from Europe, our premium raw 7075-T6 heat treated aluminium plates are prepped and rigged before securing them into position in the CNC machine.

2 // Making the Cut
Operations (known as Ops) refer to the workflow of software to hardware. A Chainring’s unique design file is uploaded to the CNC, which gives it the information to perform each “Op”. Most Chainrings are created via two Ops, one that cuts out the front and the other that cuts out the back of the raw plate of aluminium. More complex products may need several Ops to machine.

3 // Tolerance Checks
Tolerance checks are religiously performed between Ops to maintain CNC calibration.

4 // Potent Polish
A thorough polish removes sharp edges or burrs and any other excess material left over from machining.

5 // Anodising
Things really get exciting when the bare aluminium chainrings head off for Anodising to decrease wear rate as well as making them look RAD!

7 // Laser Etching
Designs and cSixx logos are etched on with lasers … because lasers are awesome!

8 // Packaging
After a final quality check Chainrings are packaged, catalogued and queued, ready to be shipped to your LBS, and if there isn’t one nearby, direct your door.

The Wolfson Dream Make Over

The Wolfson Wolfpack is officially the slickest family on two wheels. In April, they entrusted cSixx with the job of upgrading and customizing their fleet of long travel machines.

Eldest brother, Max and sister Super C Charlotte, who both ride Specialized Demos opted for highlight green and orange decals respectively when upgrading to cSixx 27.5 DH Carbon wheels, Carbon END Hi-Rise bars, proto 9series Carbon DH Guides and direct mount 36t chainrings.

No detail was too small, with each Demo now sporting custom fork decals, carbon headset spacers and cSixx’s new FOAMO Rim & Tyre protection inserts.
